One, Two, That's My Shoe by Alison Murray
Sally and the Purple Socks by Lisze Bechtold: Bring a pair of knitted wool socks and cotten for children to touch. Use sensory words to compare the way the fabrics feel.
Duck Sock Hop by Jane Kohuth
Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin
Music & Movement
"Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins or "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley: Both of these songs are perfect for a freeze dance party - just remember to hit the "pause" button at various times throughout the song.
"Old Shoes, New Shoes" Action Rhyme
Spatial Patterns: Create AB and ABBA movement patterns. Ask children to extend or duplicate the patterns. "Jump Up, Turn Around" by Jim Gill is another great option for working on movement patterns.
Circle Activities
Matching Socks: Hang socks on a clothesline or on a printed poster. Give every child a sock and take turns matching the socks on the clothesline (or poster).
Goals
P-MATH 3. Children will develop and demonstrate an understanding of 1:1 correspondence.
P-MATH 7. Children will identify, extend, and duplicate simple repeating patterns.
Bonus!
Fitz and I do laundry in this video about patterns. Can you help us match my socks?
